285 million people worldwide are estimated to have diabetes, accounting for 6.6% of the world’s adult population. The IDF predicts that by 2030 this figure will have nearly doubled to 438 million. While global figures for diabetes continue to rise, the condition is causing particular concern  in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) where the prevalence of diabetes is rising at an even faster rate.
